Week 6 Power Rankings

We are already five weeks into the season. I can’t decide if that’s exciting or depressing.

I’m excited because the Patriots look like the Patriots again. I’m also depressed because they have to play the Chiefs now.

Either way, it has certainly been an interesting season.

Enough pointless intro. Here are my Week 6 Power Rankings:

Biggest Jump: Detroit Lions 2-3 – The Lions jump up six spots this week after beating the Green Bay Packers 31-23. Detroit is a slightly confusing team. They’ve got some solid playmakers and they’ve beaten teams like Green Bay and New England, but sit at 2-3 and have consistency problems.

Biggest Drop: Tennessee Titans 3-2 – Speaking of confusing teams, what’s up with the Titans? They lost to the Buffalo Bills 13-12 Sunday. That would be the second time Tennessee scored 12 points or less this season. I think Tennessee has the talent to win their division, but they need to be more consistent.

  1. Los Angeles Rams ⇔ 5-0 Hollywood is still the home of the NFL’s best team. The Rams won again Sunday beating the division-rival Seattle Seahawks 33-31. Todd Gurley had over 100 yards-from-scrimmage and ran for 3 touchdowns while Jared Goff threw for over 300 yards in the victory. What’s new?
  2. Kansas City Chiefs ⇔ 5-0 I seriously considered moving Kansas City up to Number 1 this week after putting up over 400 yards on one of the league’s best defenses. Sunday they beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 30-14. I’d say this game was Patrick Mahomes’ first real test and he passed. He and his Chiefs have another test this week as they travel to Foxborough.
  3. Minnesota Vikings ⇑(7) 2-2-1 The Vikings move back into the top 5 this week after beating the defending world champion Eagles Sunday. Yes, I still believe Minnesota will be in the Super Bowl this year.
  4. New England Patriots ⇑(8) 3-2 Remember when the Patriots were 1-2 for the first time in forever and everyone thought they were done? Well, now they’ve won two in a row now, scoring 38 points in each victory. I believe this week’s battle against the AFC’s best Kansas City will show us who the Patriots really are.
  5. Cincinnati Bengals ⇑(9) 4-1 Are the Bengals for real? I think so. They scored 27 unanswered points to beat Miami Sunday. There’s something to be said about that. There’s also something to be said about them losing 17-0 at one point though. As long as Cincinnati’s playmakers stay healthy, they will continue to win.
